The victors of the 2022/23 season in the Champions League have been determined. Manchester City, beating the Italian giants Inter 1-0, have claimed the Champions League trophy.
There was an influx of Italian and English fans to the match played at Istanbul Atatürk Olympic Stadium on Saturday, June 10. The organisation, which was held in Turkey for the first time after 2005, was a parade of colourful scenes. The last step of the 2022/23 Champions League campaign took place in a carnival-like atmosphere, also making the shopkeepers and artisans of Istanbul happy and content.
Manchester City have finally made their long-held dream real by winning the Champions League trophy for the first time in their history. City, which created an impressive squad with the reinforcements they made to the team in the pre-season, are enjoying their Treble triumph, with a special nod to the tremendous performance of Haaland. Inter front, on the other hand, had to contend with finishing second in the State League after losing to Napoli.
The Champions League organisation in İstanbul, which ended with the victory of Manchester City, was heavily criticised by English fans.
Speaking to The Guardian, supporters claimed that they were treated like cattle.
Steve Redmayne, 41, an English fan who came to Istanbul with his 74-year-old father Colin, and his son, Joe, told The Guardian:
“What’s the point of having a fantastic showcase final, with fireworks and all the rest, but not having any infrastructure to get fans back? It was a shambles. When we finally got on a shuttle bus back, it sat for 90 minutes without moving. We got back after 3 am. We paid €150 (£128) for a taxi there, too, as the queues for the shuttle buses going to the stadium were horrendous.”
This season's adventure in the Champions League, the biggest organisation involving football clubs in Europe, has ended, for better or worse. On behalf of our team, congratulations to Manchester City.
